A Founder's Gift of $1,000,000 was earmarked to create The Heart Institute – Rose Newman Pavilion at AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center in honor of RNS Founder, Rose Newman. Officially open in the summer of 2001, the Heart Institute brings high-quality cardiac surgery and an interventional cardiology program to the southeastern New Jersey region.

The Heart Institute performs surgical procedures including open-heart surgery, by-pass grafts and valve repair/replacements and interventional procedures such as balloon, angioplasty and stent placements. Under the medical leadership of Dr. James Dralle of NYU and Dr. Harvey Waxman of Penn Cardiology at Presbyterian Medical Center, the Heart Institute at AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center has maintained excellent clinical outcomes and superb patient satisfaction results.

Prevention and rehabilitation are also a large part of the Heart Institute at AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center being the first in the community to offer HeartScan, a non-invasive painless screening exam for the dedication of calcified plaque in the arteries of the heart. HeartCheck is another regional community screening service, taking place on the AtlantiCare HealthMobile and includes blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar screening, a body mass index, heart lung assessment and a 12-lead EKG.

Additional programs through the Heart Institute include: monthly "Matters of the Heart" lectures; screening for blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels (Mainland Division); cardiac support groups for patients and their families; and mall walkers at Hamilton Mall.
