Ruth Newman Shapiro (RNS) Cancer and Heart Fund continues to support improved cancer care in the community with a $500,000 pledge (2003) for the new Cancer Center at Shore Memorial Hospital. The RNS pledge is dedicated to the first-floor radiation therapy unit where an estimated 35 patients per day receive vitally needed treatment from an up-to-date linear accelerator.

The 28,000-square foot facility provides radiation oncology as well as numerous outpatient-support programs for cancer patients. Individualized services include social and nutritional counseling, patient and family education, coupled with clinical prevention, research and treatment programs in cooperation with the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Care Network.

The three-story building features an attractive bay-village design that will blend with the surrounding residential community and the facility also includes adequate parking spaces to accommodate 45 patients.
